Extracts from HARARE REPORT 11 - 15 FEB 2008

PENSIONERS’ AID:

Homes:

Things at the homes are still getting tougher all the time but sadly, any donations received are used as a way of keeping the fees down. In Harare we can now confidently state that none of the residents in the homes are hungry and all of them receive the medication that they need – sadly this is not the case with the staff – most of them are definitely hungry, many of them are exhausted from having to walk long distances to work in order to save their meager salaries for food, and they are all disgruntled.

...

Our worries are much more for the people living in their own homes and trying to fend for themselves. We were called into see Miss (Name deleted), Mrs (Name deleted), Mrs (Name deleted) and (Name deleted) – all of whom are not coping with living expenses – each one has been assessed and a plan made for how to look after them.

(Name deleted) has organised to see Mr & Mrs (Name deleted) who were attacked in their home last year and are suffering from post-traumatic stress - how good it is to have a qualified and experienced bereavement and trauma counsellor to handle cases such as this.

.....

With love from the Harare team until next week,

Please will you help us? Any contribution, however modest,
will make a difference.
ZANE has a first class team on the ground across Zimbabwe. ZANE has systems in place that ensure that every pound donated, is used to its maximum advantage. The money will be prudently used and will go towards the relief of hardship and acute misery.
The cost of care. . .
ZANE has no offices and employs only a small staff in the UK. There are no middlemen and there is no waste.
